Today, KONAMI proudly announced that the Silent Hill 2 remake has sold over a million units globally across PC and PlayStation 5 as of October 11, according to the publisher's internal tracking. That's pretty impressive, given that the game only launched on October 8. It's another indicator of the game's great reception from critics and users alike. On Steam, the Silent Hill 2 remake didn't reach a massive peak, stopping at 23.6K concurrent users. However, user reviews are extremely positive, with 92.5% of the players leaving a favorable review. That's similar to the assessment provided by Chris Wray in Wccftech's review, where he scored the game 9 out of 10.
Silent Hill 2 is the best game Bloober Team has made. A faithful reimagining of the original, bringing it to the modern day without losing what made the original the best horror game ever, using modern game mechanics to improve where they could, and expanding on what was already an engrossing world. Without any shadow of a doubt, a resounding success, one that will likely come as a surprise to many.
Unfortunately, the game does have some technical shortcomings on PC, mainly traversal stuttering, as in most recent Unreal Engine games. However, several mods attempt to improve the situation by adding certain lacking features, such as AMD Frame Generation and NVIDIA DLSS Ray Reconstruction. Another mod aims to enhance overall performance while minimizing the visual downgrade. Still, the only real fixes for the PC version's stuttering can come from Bloober Team via patches.
By the way, the Polish team has heavily hinted that the Silent Hill 2 remake won't be the end of their collaboration with KONAMI. Franchise fans are already wondering which of the other installments should be remade first.
