The MIX Games and Wallride have announced Rugrats: Adventures in Gameland for consoles and PC. Although it has the distinct palette and 8-bit look of the NES, that is not one of the “consoles” that they are talking about.
When did Rugrats last air? 2004. I guess the ‘90s are slow to die because we’re getting a new game in 2024. It’s kind of a weird choice to make it look like an NES game since the cartoon started airing in 1991; the year the SNES was released.
Rugrats: Adventures in Gameland is a hop-and-bop platformer that also claims to have some puzzle and exploration elements. There are six levels “throughout the Pickles’ residence.” You play as Tommy, Chuckie, Phil, and Lil, who have unique skills. There’s also a simultaneous co-op mode. If the 8-bit graphics aren’t doing anything for you, you can toggle to an HD hand-drawn style that matches the cartoon.
For some reason, I just love toggling art styles. This is usually in HD remakes, but I’ll take it anywhere.
I was never into Rugrats, even though I was the right age for it. We just didn’t really get it on any of the stations my family had growing up. I mostly watched WB cartoons, like Pinky & the Brain and Batman: The Animated Series. However, I do love the NES. So much so that, if there was a version actually being released on the NES, I would be all over it.
Rugrats: Adventures in Gameland is coming to PC and Consoles in 2024. What consoles? I don’t know, it doesn’t say. But Limited Run Games will have a physical version of it for whatever consoles those are. Maybe I’ll get lucky, and there will be an NES version.
