A release date for Derek Cianfrance’s has been announced.
Roofman is a new crime movie directed by Cianfrance. It stars Channing Tatum (Blink Twice), Kirsten Dunst (Civil War), and Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones).
Roofman will be released in United States theaters on October 3, 2025, from Paramount and Miramax.
Based on a true story, Roofman is “about a former Army Ranger and struggling father who turns to robbing McDonald’s restaurants by cutting holes in their roofs, earning him the nickname ‘Roofman.’ After escaping from prison, he starts a new life while hiding in a toy store, falling in love with a single mother and her two daughters. However, his criminal past and a final robbery threaten to destroy his chance at redemption.”
The script for Roofman was written by Cianfrance and Kirk Gunn. Lynette Howell Taylor, Jamie Patricof, and Duncan Montgomery serve as producers on the film.
Tatum and Cianfrance both serve as executive producers alongside Jonathan Montepare, Becky Sloviter, Thom Zadra, Charles Barsamian, Limelight’s Chris Parker, Miramax’s Jonathan Glickman, and High Frequency’s Jack Selby, Sam Romano, and Rick Covert.
Cianfrance made his feature film directorial debut in 1998 with Brother Tied, which he also wrote. His second feature film was 2010’s Blue Valentine starring Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams. After that, he reunited with Gosling for 2012’s The Place Beyond the Pines, which co-starred Bradley Cooper, Eva Mendes, Dane DeHaan, Rose Byrne, and Mahershala Ali.
Cianfrance then went on to make 2016’s The Light Between the Oceans with Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander, which is the most recent film that he’s directed. He did, however, executive produce and work on the story for 2020’s Sound of Metal, which was nominated for Best Original Screenplay at the 93rd Academy Awards, starring Riz Ahmed.
