The approach that is taking towards trading, what should be one of its most central features, paints a notably negative picture of what the mechanic may be like when it is finally implemented. Although is still a functional game without trading, its absence can be keenly felt at times. However, while the future addition of trading may make a marked improvement to the title, it may unfortunately also prove to be a disappointment.
Trading is without question the most notable absence in ’s current form, although other aspects of the game can be dissatisfying as well. For example, ’s battle matching is unbalanced, with high-power decks becoming ubiquitous with no way for people to avoid playing against them. has not fixed other issues with lackluster features either, which does little to inspire confidence in the implementation of trading when it does arrive.
As the number of missing cards in a collection decreases, it is increasingly easy for people to find themselves repeatedly obtaining the same cards in booster packs. This can leave a few empty spaces in a set remaining for a long time depending on one’s luck. Naturally, the most likely cards to be affected by this will be rarer cards, like Pokémon EX and Secret Rares, as there is far less opportunity to obtain even one from a booster pack. Moreover, obtaining duplicates of these is just as likely as getting any other card of the same rarity.
Trading could be a perfect solution to this, particularly as plenty of other players will likely have complimentary spaces in their own collections. But with the feature being missing for months now since the game’s release, this fact instead only makes the current lack of trading more frustrating for those in such a position. It seems strange for the game to have even been launched without what would logically be a core feature, and the weight of its absence is only growing for those who would potentially benefit from it.
