Trials for Baldur’s Gate 3 and The Lord of the Rings: Gollum have been added to PlayStation Plus Premium.
As noted by Twitter accountPlayStation Game Size, the trial for Baldur’s Gate 3 lets players try the game for two hours, while the Gollum trial lasts for one hour.
The timing of both games having trials added to the service is particularly notable given the critical reception to each game.
With a Metacritic score currently sitting at 96, Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently the joint-highest rated game of 2023 along with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Conversely, with a Metacritic score of 34, Gollum is one of the lowest-rated high profile releases of the year.
Baldur’s Gate 3 has been nominated for eight prizes at The Game Awards 2023, with Alan Wake 2 being the only other game to match it.
The game is getting a physical Deluxe Edition next year, which will be available for Xbox Series X, PS5 and PC for $79.99 / €79.99.
Gollum was released in May and was critically panned, withThe Guardian labelling it “a derivative, uninteresting and fundamentally broken stealth action adventure that fails to capture anything interesting about Tolkien’s fiction.”
Following the release of the game, developer Daedalic apologised for delivering what it called an “underwhelming experience” with the final product. The company said it “deeply regretted” that the game did not meet expectations, and pledged to improve it via future updates.
However, it was then claimed thatthe apology was written by AI program ChatGPT, rather than by Daedalic members.
