In Peacemaker episode 6, “Murn After Reading,” Peacemaker sits down, and John Cena appears to play the piano. It’s a moving and powerful moment that is important for Chris Smith’s characterization and highlights James Gunn’s skill at interweaving music and narrative progression. However, some viewers might be surprised to see John Cena’s character play the piano.
In Peacemaker episode 6, Chris Smith’s introspection finally comes to a head. Having witnessed the brutality of Captain Locke (Christopher Heyerdahl) in the woods and having been challenged on being opposed to killing people by Vigilante (Freddie Stroma), he opens up to Harcourt (Jennifer Holland). After confessing to her that he doesn’t want to kill people anymore, he goes to the piano (the existence of which was telegraphed by John Economos’ complaints earlier in the series) and plays a piece of music while clearly emotional.

The short answer is, yes, John Cena is really playing the piano in Peacemaker episode 6. A few years ago, Peacemaker star John Cena revealed in an interview that he had learned to play and previously was featured in a video (via The Bella Twin’s YouTube channel) wearing a suit and playing a piano rendition of The Pixies “Where Is My Mind?” It is perhaps unjust that it is surprising to many that John Cena can play the piano and speaks to perceptions that people have of large and muscular men, but he is clearly multitalented.
