Patrick Stewart has all but confirmed his appearance as Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Stewart first played Professor X in 2o00's X-Men, carrying on in the role for multiple films in the X-Men franchise afterward, including X2: X-Men United, X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, The Wolverine, X-Men: Days of Future Past, and Logan (which served as his last appearance as the character). Actor James McAvoy took over the role in X-Men: First Class, playing a younger version of Professor X. McAvoy then carried the torch across the most recent X-Men films, including X-Men: Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is the latest solo outing for the titular character, once again played by Benedict Cumberbatch. The sequel film finds the Master of the Mystic Arts recruiting magically-powered individuals, including Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch, to help fight off a new threat that has emerged from the split multiverse. In the first full trailer for Doctor Strange 2 released earlier this month, Cumberbatch's Strange is seen entering a mysterious room, and a very familiar voice is heard saying «We should tell him the truth.» The voice is recognisably that of Stewart, and the camera pulls back to reveal what appears to be Professor X sitting in a chair and facing Strange. Many viewers naturally took this as confirmation that Professor X had entered the MCU, and that this scene acted as a tease of Marvel's Illuminati also making their first MCU appearance.
