Grey’s Anatomy actor has been tapped to join the, set to star in a series regular role as Aaron Spencer.
The upcoming Dexter prequel series will see the actor portray the Captain of the Miami Metro Homicide Department, Aaron Spencer. The character had been in a decades-long relationship with Dexter Morgan’s father, Harry Morgan. The prequel will be set a few years before Dexter has become a bloodthirsty serial killer.
Patrick Gibson is set to portray the young titular serial killer, a role played by Michael C. Hall in the original series. Joining him are Christian Slater as Harry Morgan and Molly Brown as Debra Morgan.
Earlier this month, Paramount+ with Showtime announced four additional actors starring in the prequel, including James Martinez as Angel Batista, Christina Milian as Maria LaGuerta, Alex Shimizu as Vince Masuka, and Reno Wilson as Bobby Watt, with Dempsey being the latest addition to Dexter: Original’s growing list of cast.
Dexter: Original Sin, which will consist of ten episodes, will center on Dexter’s earlier years as he transitioned from a regular student to living a double life as a serial killer. The series is set in 1991 Miami.
The official synopsis reads: “When his bloodthirsty urges can’t be ignored any longer, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness. With the guidance of his father, Harry, he adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on law enforcement’s radar. This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.”
In addition to his career-defining role as Derek in Grey’s Anatomy, Dempsey has also starred in several films and television shows, including The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair, Devils, Scream 3, Sweet Home Alabama, Enchanted, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, and Ferrari, among others. The actor most recently starred as Sheriff Eric Newlon in the slasher film Thanksgiving.
