Ori developer Moon Studios is currently working on No Rest for the Wicked, but a new Ori game isn't being ruled out by the studio's co-founder and game director.
That's what Moon Studios co-founder and creator of the Ori series, Thomas Mahler, has said in a recent interview with Game Informer. In the interview, studio founders Mahler and Gennadiy Korol were asked why the team decided to create No Rest for the Wicked instead of a sequel to 2020's Ori and the Will of the Wisps. As expressed by Korol, the story of Ori was complete, and the only way to return for a new game was if there was more story to tell.
"I think were were pretty happy with where it left off," Korol told Game Informer. "I think we were able to complete the story of Ori. It's a complete arc now; if you play both games, it's a complete story. So it felt like the only way we would come back to Ori 3 is if we have more to say, more story to tell."
Mahler, however, already appears to have an actual title and some ideas for a new Ori game, which seems to come as new information for Korol. "I have a title for it already," Mahler said with Korol then jumping in and saying, "I didn't know that it was on the table."
As expected, the current main focus remains on No Rest for the Wicked. "I have some ideas, but so far, right now, we are completely focused on No Rest for the Wicked for the time being", Mahler explained.
Will Ori 3 ever happen? Not anytime soon, but we're pretty sure that Ori fans will be happy to learn that Mahler has been actively thinking about a new game in the series.
No Rest for the Wicked releases later this month in early access on April 18 for PC. Full versions of the Private Division-published titles will come to PC as well as PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
