The shadow curse is the reason everyone at the Last Light Inn dies when Shadowheart kills the Nightsong: Isobel's protective magic falters, and the harmful magic that permeates the rest of the region begins to seep in. So, in theory, taking everyone at the Last Light Inn to a place that's naturally protected from the shadow curse should allow them to survive without Isobel. And while the refugees at Last Light don't have access to such a place, the player does.
