AppSir Games, led by Darius Immanuel Guerrero, has dropped a new retro-style horror platformer game on Android. It’s called Spooky Pixel Hero. If you think this studio is new, it’s actually not. It has already released hits like the DERE series (DERE Vengeance, DERE EVIL, DERE: Rebirth of Horror) and other games like Puzzling Peaks and HopBound.
In the game, you’re pulled into a secret mission by a shadowy organization. You play the role of a game developer who needs to repair a platformer game from 1976. By the way, the game inside the game seems way too ahead of its time.
Spooky Pixel Hero is a game which takes you back to the retro gaming era. You can call it a vintage 2D pixel art game that meets thrilling horror. It’s a deep dive into classic platformers, with a dark narrative lurking in the shadows.
You get 120 levels in Spooky Pixel Hero which is a great number for a horror platformer. These levels will let you run into traps and mind-bending puzzles. And each step you take brings you closer to unravelling the game’s twisted secrets.
The visuals are a trip back to the 70s and 80s, blending 1-bit and 8-bit pixel art to create a nostalgic but eerie experience. Curious to see what it looks like? Catch a glimpse of the trailer right below!
Spooky Pixel Hero lets you debug an old game while stepping into a meta-horror world. The game creates an unsettling world that’s abstract and entertaining. As you journey through the game, you’ll piece together a sinister backstory filled with pixelated spirits, ghostly glitches and Lovecraftian horrors.
The game is free to play. If you think it’s interesting, you can check it out on the Google Play Store.
