Team Asobi’s Astro Bot has seen a pretty underwhelming start in the United Kingdom, at least when considering physical sales. Games Industry’s Christopher Dring revealed its launch week sales were “about a third lower” than Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart from 2021. It’s worth noting that the latter topped UK physical sales charts on its debut, more than tripling Returnal’s numbers.
Nevertheless, Dring expects a “longer sales tail” for Astro Bot (digital sales have also yet to be revealed). And yes, the PS5 platformer sold more than Concord’s worldwide numbers, which is more of an indictment against Firewalk’s now-defunct shooter than anything else.
Astro Bot has garnered universal critical acclaim since launch, and it’s currently the highest-rated game of the year per Metacritic. You can check out our review here, where we gave it a nine out of ten. Team Asobi is developing free post-launch content, including speedrun stages, challenge levels, additional VIP bots, and leaderboards. These will arrive later this year, so stay tuned for updates.
Astro Bot’s UK sales (physical-only so far) aren’t huge. Opening week is about a third lower than 2021’s Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, but I expect a longer sales tail for Astro. It’s certainly sold more copies in the UK in just 2 days than Concord sold worldwide
