Following some cryptic Twitter teases, Hello Games has officially announced the Omega update for No Man's Sky, which finally gives players the ability to customise their ships.
It wasn't that long ago that No Man's Sky received the massive Omega update (which massively overhauled the Expeditions mode), but it looks like players have been given yet another reason to return to the game's vast universe. Just a few days ago, Sean Murray started doing his usual cryptic tweets, which had many thinking that a new update was already on the way.
As it turns out, Murray's tweets were indeed teasing a brand-new update for No Man's Sky, which has now been revealed as the Orbital update. If you thought that the Omega update was big, then you'll be happy to know that Orbital is introducing even more new features, including the long-awaited ability to customise your spaceship.
As revealed in a trailer posted to the Hello Games YouTube, the Orbital update might be one of the biggest that No Man's Sky has seen in some time. The most notable feature that has been added to the game is starship customisation, which allows Travellers to design and build their own custom ship from salvaged parts, which can be earned by dismantling ships you already own.
You might think that this makes your "naturally-hunted" ships a bit worthless, but the patch notes reveal that they can be identified by the Authenticated Starship seal and will net you a bigger bonus when traded in.
We get a good glimpse of how the ship customisation works in the trailer for the Orbital update, as it seems players will be able to choose how the cockpit, wings, hull, and reactor core of their ship look. You'll also be able to choose whether the ship is a Hauler, Fighter, Shuttle, or Explorer.
