may be a game about shooting Bugs and Bots with an assortment of deadly firearms but players hoping to charge into the fray with nothing but a melee weapon shouldn't give up hope just yet. Ever since the incredibly popular sequel in early 2024, the community has begged Arrowhead Studios to include some kind of sword as an unlockable weapon and since the studio hasn't done so yet, the demands have just grown louder. Fortunately, those diehard saber enthusiasts will be pleased to know that the developers are still looking into the idea.
Per a message on the Discord (via GamesRadar+) from Community Manager Twinbeard, there's still a chance that melee weapons make it into the game. «It might still happen,» they wrote, before noting that Arrowhead has had a particularly busy month having launched a new Warbonds and furthering the Automaton narrative. While this shouldn't be taken as definitive proof, it's still good to know that the addition of non-firearm tools is still «branded plausible» and may be included in a forthcoming content update should the developers figure out a way to implement them into the Galactic War.
As mentioned above, the community is adamant that melee weapons should be given to players, especially since they were available in the original game. Granted, the first only featured one kind of melee weapon, the Saber, but the aesthetic of equipping the blade and charging into the fray against an army of Automatons and Terminids was enough to satisfy most players. The Saber dealt the same amount of damage as a standard bayonet stab but its swing had a smaller area-of-effect which was buffed by having a much faster swing speed.
It's worth noting that does have a melee option but the move is simply a default action that sees players simply strike out with the butt of their equipped weapon.
