Evil Empire’s The Rogue Prince of Persia, a 2D side-scrolling rogue-lite based on Ubisoft’s franchise, has seen a delay. Previously slated for May 14th, early access will now start later this month, with a new release date to be announced on May 13th.
As for the reason behind the delay, it’s due to the sudden early access launch of Hades 2, currently among the top sellers on Steam. “Seeing as everyone and their mum is playing that game (including our entire team… and their mums), we have decided to let people have their fun with it before we releaseThe Rogue Prince of Persia.”
The developer has “every confidence” in its title, but “it’s not every day that a game in the same genre as you, which is one of the most anticipated upcoming games of 2024, will release into Early Access a week before you plan to do the same.” Instead of ignoring its impact, the team is going for a short delay instead.
It also allows for more polish on top of the day one patch (which is “getting pretty hefty”). Having more time for testing before launch is noted to have “considerably lowered the stress levels of our producer and game director already!”
The Rogue Prince of Persia will launch into early access with its first story Act, consisting of six levels and two bosses. Players can also utilize different primary and second weapons, Medallions for passive effects and more. Head here for details on how Medallions and weapon traits work. Early access will last “around a year”, perhaps longer, with updates adding new levels, bosses, story content, progression systems and more.
