Japan, Europe, and parts of the US are experiencing very high temperatures at the moment, and Nintendo is concerned some of us may end up playing Switch games and damaging the hardware.
As Nintendo Life reports(Opens in a new window), Nintendo Japan's Twitter support account tweeted a warning(Opens in a new window) on Monday that the Switch in all its forms should not be played in very high temperatures. "If you use the Nintendo Switch in a hot place, the temperature of the main unit may become high," the tweet explains. It goes on to state 35 degrees Celsius as the temperature limit for the hardware.
Nintendo also points out how important it is to keep the intake and exhaust ports on the Switch free of blockages. Regardless of the temperature outside, if these ports are blocked the components inside your Switch will rapidly heat up and ultimately result in your console unexpectedly shutting down in an attempt to avoid damage.
I don't think Nintendo has too much to worry about during heatwaves as nobody is going to sit and play their Switch in bright sunlight when temperatures are in the mid-thirties. Not only would the player wither very quickly in the heat, they wouldn't be able to see the screen to enjoy their game. Playing in a much cooler shaded area on the other hand, is going to prove a very popular distraction from the heat.
Japan is suffering through its worst heatwave in decades(Opens in a new window) right now, with temperatures reaching 35C. Europe is in a similar situation and temperatures in Portugal are expected to hit 38C today(Opens in a new window). Temperature records are also being broken(Opens in a new window) across the Southwest and central US this month.
