Late last week, the New World team announced a round of server merges that are intended to follow population normalization following the Rise of the Angry Earth expansion back in October. These changes come ahead of Season 4, Eternal Frost, and will begin in most regions starting today.
Initially, the announcement included merges across regions with the intention of consolidating servers that were created during the launch of the expansion. Since populations grew with Rise of the Angry Earth, the New World team followed prior examples, like with the release of Brimstone Sands, and eased the potential for queues and congested servers by simply opening up some more servers. Of course, nearly two months after the expansion release, some servers have been showing population dips that make them less than competitive or viable.
Initially, the list of affected servers included the Central EU, US-East, US-West, South America, and Asia-Pacific regions. However, the Amazon team announced that, following feedback, “No merge will be made to US-East or Asia-Pacific worlds at this time, allowing Octans, Pollux, Orion, and Sutekh to continue operating independently. While future population changes may prompt reconsideration, we acknowledge valid points raised over the last day and will keep them in mind if/when the time comes for re-evaluation.”
Feedback on the decision to hold off on these merges was met with mixed responses, with one player on X (Twitter) saying “Letting servers stay dead instead of doing something about it was not the community feedback I was hoping you would listen to”.
