It's been a pretty rough couple of weeks for Rocksteady Studios, as numerous leaks regarding the plot of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League have spread all over social media, forcing the developer to issue a statement and warn fans of potential spoilers. One of the big leaks confirmed that certain Arkham villains such as Poison Ivy would be returning, and Rocksteady decided to reveal her to fans earlier this week.
Having sacrificed herself at the end of Batman: Arkham Knight, many questioned how Poison Ivy would return so quickly. It turns out that she's pulled a Groot, having left a sprout behind after "death" and began the aging process all over again. As a result, Poison Ivy is now a child in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, but it seems like a loud portion of fans aren't too happy with her redesign.
One of the biggest causes of frustration is having Poison Ivy featured in a game that stars Harley Quinn. We know that the two share a more romantic relationship in other DC media, and that the relationship between the two is one of the few good things to come out of DC over the past few years. What with Poison Ivy being a child, we won't get to see that relationship in the Arkham universe, and that's very disappointing to a lot of people.
You do also have the Batman fans that are upset they don't get to lust after Poison Ivy anymore, who has been traditionally portrayed as a very seductive and charismatic character, especially in the previous Arkham games. It's a completely fine opinion to have if you simply prefer the previous design, but a lot of it does seem to be quite toxic, which isn't too surprising from the same fanbase that recently lost it over an LGBTQ+ flag.
