The Galaxy S24 Ultra might have retained the same 5,000mAh battery capacity as the Galaxy S23 Ultra from last year, but the chipset improvements, coupled with the software optimizations, would have helped Samsung’s flagship beat the competition in the latest battery drain test. One YouTuber placed four premium handsets next to each other to perform the benchmark, and even the iPhone 15 Pro Max with its 3nm A17 Pro found it difficult to overtake its newest rival in the flagship space.
A variety of social media apps were fired up to drain the batteries of each flagship, with XEETECHCARE also opening up 3DMark for good measure. Facebook and Instagram are known battery guzzlers, but the Galaxy S24 Ultra maintained the lead against the competition. It is possible that the larger vapor chamber helped keep the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 temperatures in check, while the latest One UI update reduced CPU overhead, which resulted in a more power-efficient package.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max was not far behind in the battery drain test, keeping pace with the Galaxy S24 Ultra, but its smaller battery, coupled with the lack of an effective cooling solution, might have got the better of Apple’s top-end offering as Samsung’s latest flagship made it out on top with 10 hours and 59 minutes before powering off. In second place, we have the iPhone 15 Pro Max, lasting for 10 hours and 20 minutes.
Surprisingly, the Pixel 8 Pro managed to keep pace with the competition and ended up with 10 hours on the board, whereas last year’s Galaxy S23 Ultra finished last with a time of 8 hours of 10 minutes, which is still impressive, considering that it is a year old at this point. The YouTube video did not mention if Galaxy S24 Ultra’s competition was running
