Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth will have a New Game Plus mode, but only if you've bought either the deluxe or ultimate edition. Anyone with the standard edition of Infinite Wealth won't be able to access this mode, despite it being available in most other games for no extra charge.
This was spotted over on the Infinite Wealth website, which has a pre-order guide listing all the different editions, and the features they will include. It confirms what many feared when many of the game's extra features were revealed last year. As set out on the chart, New Game Plus will be part of the Master Vacation Bundle, which doesn't come with the standard edition of the game.
In fact, the Master Vacation Bundle is the only perk you get for picking up the deluxe edition. The bundle itself includes a few other add-ons, like a new dungeon, but that's it. Anyone with the ultimate edition will get two other bundles on top of this though, as well as more tracks for your in-game playlist.
This move is proving unpopular in the fanbase, with many saying that the game's publisher, Sega, has no excuse for charging for a feature most games make available for free.
Even Kiryu's actor in the English dub, Yong Yea, has spoken out against the decision to charge for the game mode. He argues that it should be included in the base game and that putting it behind a paywall "hurts community goodwill".
As for the pricing, the differences are quite dramatic. The standard edition will cost $69.99, whereas the deluxe and ultimate editions will set you back $84.99 and $109.99 respectively. That's at least a $15 price increase if you want to get a copy with New Game Plus enabled.
Sega is yet to respond to the backlash, but given that it's so close to launch, we're not likely to see this decision reversed before the game is out. Infinite Wealth will be with us on January 26, and will be available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
