The enormous success of Helldivers 2 continues, with the game officially outperforming both Fortnite and Call of Duty on PSN in the USA. Compared to the original game, Helldivers 2 is proving to be a breakout hit, with player counts rising daily.
Helldivers 2's ongoing success is somewhat of a surprise. The original title was nowhere near as popular, but, like Palworld last month, Helldivers 2 is seizing its moment in the spotlight, and every day, it seems as though more and more gamers are jumping onto the bandwagon to see what all the fuss is about. Just yesterday, Helldivers 2 passed Destiny 2's all-time Steam concurrent player count. Considering the size of Arrowhead Game Studios when compared to a developer like Bungie, it's an impressive feat, and those numbers only look set to grow over the next few days as the hype train rolls madly on.
It was confirmed today that Helldivers 2 had passed two titans in Fortnite and Call of Duty to become the current top game on PSN in the USA. As more and more Helldivers 2 reviews come in, it becomes clear how strong of a title Arrowhead Game Studios has on its hands at the moment, but only time will tell if it can sustain this kind of momentum for a lengthy period of time.
While these records are obviously impressive, there's one thing holding the game back from even more success. Right now, many players are struggling to play Helldivers 2 thanks to a 450,000-player cap across both PC and PS5, necessitated due to server capacity. It's understandable, considering not even the developer expected the game to be such a hit. However, it does mean that until this is resolved, the maximum number of Helldivers 2 players has a hard cap. There's good news, though — the Helldivers 2 studio is already hiring to ease the workload following the game's success, and hopefully, it isn't too long before the server problems subside.
