Skybound Entertainment is crowdfunding a new AAA game based on its franchise. The company has already raised $8 million before starting the program but hopes to raise an additional $50,000 to $5 million.
“At Skybound, we prioritize fostering meaningful connections with our audience,” said CEO David Alpert, “and this initiative allows fans to not only immerse themselves in the world of Invincible but also to directly contribute to its expansion.” While the company has partnered with outside studios before, it’s developing this game in-house with a team of over 30 developers. These include industry veterans from companies like EA, Activision Blizzard, and Epic Games.
The campaign, which has a minimum investment of $100, has raised $446,200 toward the untitled Invincible game. That’s already well above Skybound’s minimum goal of $50,000, but far from the $5 million maximum. It is also worth clarifying that this is an investment rather than a donation, so investors will receive an eventual financial return. However, the investment does not grant voting shares in Skybound Entrainment. Fans who want to get in on the ground floor can do so through the investment platform Republic.
Skybound hasn’t revealed much about the game itself, dedicating only a few sentences to describe the final product. “If you follow the show,” reads a section on the project’s Republic page, “you can imagine exactly what to expect from this video game: tons of action, stunning game and character design, and of course, a healthy dose of blood.” Skybound also confirmed that, unlike previous Invincible games like Guarding the Globe and Atom Eve, the new game is a full AAA blockbuster.
