HBO has revealed the first official images from the second season of The Last of Us, which shows Ellie and Joel looking a lot older. Well, Joel certainly looks older, at least.
Although it looks like we're no closer to getting news about what Naughty Dog is working on currently, let alone hearing more about The Last of Us Part 3, fans of the series can at least rest knowing that the HBO adaptation's second season is coming at some point in 2025. We've heard a lot about the new season over the past year, and now we've finally got our first look at the horror that's about to come.
Over on the official HBO Max Twitter account, two brand-new images from the show were shared that focus on Bella Ramsey as Ellie and Pedro Pascal as Joel, who have both been given updated looks that reflect how they changed between the first and second games.
The first image shows Pedro Pascal as Joel, who looks significantly older than he did in the show's first season. This is most noticeable with his hair, which is longer (just like Joel's was in The Last of Us Part 2) and even seems to be a little greyer. He's also sporting the same coat that he wears in the game, which is a nice touch.
Fans of The Last of Us Part 2 will almost definitely recognise that this first image hints that the show is recreating the moment that Ellie yells at Joel during the Jackson barn dance.
We also get our first official look at Bella Ramsey as Ellie in The Last of Us' second season. As you can probably tell from the winter get-up that Ellie wearing, this scene seems to take place on the hunt that she and Dina go on in the opening chapters of the game. The show will likely do a few things differently, but it seems like it's at least recreating the opening pretty faithfully.
Sadly, the post doesn't show off any other characters other than Ellie and Joel and still has the same 2025 date that we received earlier this year, so we'll have to make do with these new images of the pair for now. Let's
