Cataclysm Classic is in full swing after its May 20th launch, and soon after the launch of Phase 1 raids, players have noticed a very peculiar item has started appearing in Auction Houses across Azeroth — Heroic versions of the Crossfire Carbine. The Crossfire Carbine is a familiar sight to anyone who's tangled with the trash in Phase 1 raids, but this Heroic version is a different story.
Why is this peculiar? This Heroic item has existed in our database since the original launch of Cataclysm on Retail servers, but it's not supposed to be available in game, since it’s a drop from trash mobs in Cataclysm Raids. In Heroic Raids, trash mobs themselves are not Heroic, so this item shouldn’t be able to drop in its Heroic form.
Yet, somehow it has, and it’s available for purchase.
The first Crossfire Carbine appeared on the Benediction Auction House two days ago, and since then, many new auctions of this item have appeared almost daily across several different servers. This means that some players have found a way to get their hands on items that shouldn’t exist, and are now attempting to sell them for a hefty profit.
