Moon Knight’s Oscar Isaac shares the advice Robert Downey Jr. gave him on joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Since first appearing as Tony Stark in 2008’s Iron Man, Downey has become the unofficial godfather of the MCU. Downey retired his character in Avengers: Endgame, paving the way for new heroes to make their mark in the MCU’s Phase 4. Moon Knight premiered on Disney+ on March 30 and introduces Isaac as one of those heroes — or, rather, anti-heroes.
Thanks to roles in films like the Coen brothers’ Inside Llewyn Davis, Disney’s Star Wars sequel trilogy, and Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, Isaac has established himself as one of the most talented and in-demand actors in Hollywood. Since the 2020 announcement that he would star in Disney+’s Moon Knight, Isaac has admitted he was hesitant to join the MCU. Unfamiliar with Marvel Studios’ process, Isaac asked the MCU’s Tony Stark for advice.

In a recent interview with Extra, Isaac reveals the piece of advice Downey gave him before working on Moon Knight. The MCU veteran told him to collaborate with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and “be bold” with his choices. Isaac also doubles-down on Iron Man being the biggest inspiration for his own series, something he's said often in the run-up to the Moon Knight premiere. Read the full quote below:
