Modern Warfare 3 topped the UK software sales chart in November, but it fell significantly short of the launch enjoyed by last year’s Call of Duty game.
According to GSD data covering physical and digital retail, Modern Warfare 3 sales during the game’s first three weeks of availability were 38% lower than Modern Warfare 2’s following its release last October, GamesIndustry.biz reports.
Nevertheless, Activision’s shooter managed to hold off competition from EA Sports FC 24 to top November’s software sales chart.
The football game, which led software sales during Black Friday week in the UK, charted ahead of Hogwarts Legacy, Spider-Man 2 and SuperMario Bros. Wonder.
Over 4.55 million games were sold last month in the UK, down 3% compared to November 2022.
According to GfK data, more than 486,000 games consoles were sold last month, which was up 32% year-over-year.
PS5 accounted for almost half of the consoles sold in November, ahead of Xbox Series X/S and third-placed Nintendo Switch.
Sales of Sony‘s console were up 126% compared to last November, while Xbox Series X/S sales were up 4%, and Switch sales fell 19%.
According to GfK, PS5 accounted for 51% of total console sales over the six months ended in October.
