Known Souls modder Lance McDonald has released a new video showing off BloodBorne running on PS5 hardware at 60FPS.
Bloodborne fans will know that the modder has been working on unofficial patches to get FromSoftware's hit title running on PlayStation hardware at 60FPS. Two years ago, McDonald already showed off the game running at 60FPS on PlayStation 4 Pro, and several months later, the modder said that releasing an official PS5 update should be possible for Sony. "PlayStation is somehow enabling games which are compiled on extremely old SDKs to detect that they’re running on PS5 and unlock the framerate", he said on Twitter. "I don’t know how they’re doing this but it’s extremely cool and must make life for devs a lot nicer not having to retarget a new SDK."
Interestingly enough, in the same year, Eurogamer's Digital Foundry also managed to get Bloodborne running on PlayStation 5 development hardware at 60FPS with AI upscaling. Fast forward two years, and McDonald has now released his own video of the 2015 PlayStation 4 title running on a modded PlayStation 5 in 1080p resolution at 60 frames per second. As can be seen in the video, the gameplay is way smoother than the 30FPS version, and we can't really understand why Sony has, at least, released a proper 60FPS update for PS5.
"This video shows 6 minutes of Bloodborne running at a true 60fps framerate without lowering the resolution from the original Full HD 1080p on actual PlayStation 5 hardware", McDonald explains. "No upscaling or interpolation has been applied to the footage. just raw gameplay capture is shown".
Last month, McDonald came in hard at God of War and Twisted Metal creator David Jaffe, who said that Sony is releasing a Bloodborne PS5 remaster or PC version
