Mike Flanagan's The Fall of the House of Usher officially begins production. The Netflix series is the latest from Flanagan, who found critical success on the streaming service with The Haunting of Hill House, its follow-up The Haunting of Bly Manor, and most recently, Midnight Mass. Flanagan announced House of Usher back in October, which his Intrepid Pictures studio will produce in a miniseries format.
The Fall of the House of Usher will reportedly adapt Edgar Allen Poe's short story of the same name from 1839 and several other works by the gothic horror author as well. Additional details are currently unknown, but Flanagan has called the project a "modern remix" of some of Poe's most significant works. That quote was a part of the first wave of casting announcements, including Mark Hamill, genre legend Frank Langella as Roderick Usher, frequent Flanagan collaborator Carla Gugino, and others.

Mike Flanagan took to Twitter to announce the official start of production for The Fall of the House of Usher. The director's only words are, "And we're off," accompanying an image of the first slate markup. The slate lists Michael Fimognari as Director of Photography, another collaborator of Flanagan's who has worked with him on Ouija: Origin of Evil, Hill House, Midnight Mass, and a few other projects, and who will be directing four of the scheduled eight episodes of The Fall of the House of Usher. The tweet also serves to clarify any confusion about the production timeline after actress Kate Siegel tweeted an image of herself in front of a House of Usher sign last week.
