Set in the United Kingdom of Euchronia, a nation of three countries inhabited by eight tribes, the story of Metaphor: ReFantazio begins with chaos ensuing after the king is killed.
It is then that players meet the protagonist and his companion, the fairy Galica, who together must break the curse on the kingdom's prince, whom everyone believes to be dead. To do this, the pair must take part in a tournament for the throne, which will lead them to form allies with people from various tribes, such as Strohl from the Clemar tribe, Hulkenberg from the Roussainte, and Heismay from the Eusgief.
