In a short but sweet gameplay preview for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, we saw in-game footage that looks to be a massive upgrade.
The Xbox Partner Preview livestream aired on October 25 showcased a sneak peak of what the gameplay will look like. From what we did see, it looks like a graphically-solid remake.
We didn’t get to see much, but we saw Snake lurking about in the jungle and camouflaging with the environments. There were wild animals lurking about, just as Snake was. Since the original Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater released in 2004, 20 years later the remake looks like a massive upgrade.
The gameplay preview showed Snake in third-person view sneaking around enemies, crawling into some tall grass, and aiming his pistol at enemies. It seems that you can switch to first-person mode when laying on the ground, and you can aim down-sights at enemies to make combat easier.
I’m not sure whether or not you can do this on the fly, or only when laying on the ground, but it’s a cool feature to spot. The jungle environment is lush, and with the high-fidelity graphics of Unreal Engine 5, it seems very visually pleasing already. More gameplay showed Snake sneak attacking an enemy from behind, then holding him hostage against his body.
The clips went from looking like an animal documentary, to Snake wading through a river, and even sneaking into an enemy base. No dialogue, no UI, just some raw gameplay footage, but still enough to get excited.
Whether or not Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater lives up to the 20-year-old original, we’ll have to wait and see. To be expected, it didn’t announce any release date, but hopefully we’ll see more once the new year arrives.
