While Marvel Rivals is getting quite a bit of a reputation as a competent competitive multiplayer hero shooter, the game might soon be dipping its toe into the PvE side of things. Recent leaks indicate that a PvE mode is in the works, with assets discovered by leakers showcasing what might be a new boss fight coming to the game.
Following up from reports of a PvE mode in Marvel Rivals fromX user RivalsLeaks, a more recent leak shows off what seems to be an early iteration of a kraken-esque tentacled monster chasing the player around in one of the game’s maps. It is worth noting that, if this is a real leak, these assets are still quite early seeing as how they don’t have animations and are simply following the player around with tentacles outstretched.
While it may not have been fully rigged and animated yet, this kraken certainly looks close to completion on the modelling and texturing side of things. The video also gives us a short look at its maw, which even has fully-textured teeth.
The addition of a PvE mode would also be a big way for Marvel Rivals to distinguish itself from competing game Overwatch 2, which had to scrap its planned PvE mode before bringing it back in a lackluster fashion.
When it comes to adding new content to Marvel Rivals, developer NetEase Games has been on quite a roll. The studio recently announced that it would be bringing the remaining members of the Fantastic Four to its roster on February 21. This means that players will finally get to take on the roles of The Thing and Human Torch, joining Sue Storm and Reid Richards that have already been in the game for some time.
The studio has previously stated its intent to focus on keeping the game more fun, even at the cost of competitive balance. Creative director Guangyun Chen spoke about this in an interview last month, reiterating that the studio wants Marvel Rivals to be the type of game that appeals to every kind of player.
