Matt and Ross Duffer are currently in post-production on Season 5. According to the Duffer Brothers, they’re progressing at an encouraging rate.
“We’re focused on visual effects sequences right now, which started back in January,” the Duffers said during an interview at SCAD TVfest via Variety. “It’s going well. We’re actually ahead of schedule, which is rare for us.”
Netflix has stated that Stranger Things Season 5 will be released in 2025, and Matt reiterated that same release plan.
“I will say that it is coming this year,” Matt said when asked about a 2025 release. “We’re definitely on target.”
Stranger Things Season 5 wrapped production in December. When the final eight episodes will stream remains unknown. The Duffers are also unsure if Netflix will split the episodes into multiple parts, similar to Stranger Things Season 4, when seven episodes were released in May 2022 and two episodes streamed in July 2022.
Stranger Things Season 5’s ensemble includes Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers, David Harbour as Jim Hopper, Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson, Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas Sinclair, Sadie Sink as Maxine “Max” Mayfield, Natalia Dyer as Nancy Wheeler, Charlie Heaton as Jonathan Byers, Joe Keery as Steve Harrington, Maya Hawke as Robin Buckley, Priah Ferguson as Erica Sinclair, Jamie Cambell Bower as Vecna, Cara Buono as Karen Wheeler, and Amybeth McNulty as Vickie.
Nell Fisher, Alex Breaux, Jake Connelly, and Linda Hamilton have all been cast in Season 5.
Created by the Duffer Brothers, Stranger Things has become one of Netflix’s most popular shows of all time. Season 5 will be the final chapter of the sci-fi series.
