Major D&D Villain To Return In New Edition
gamerant.comIt seems that one of the most famous Dungeons and Dragons villains ever is set to appear in the upcoming edition of the popular tabletop RPG. According to information divulged in the latest D&D Direct, the classic villain Vecna will return to the game in One D&D.
Officially announced last year for the game’s 50-year anniversary, the upcoming One D&D will be the next edition of the franchise. Ever since the announcement, however, Wizards of the Coast has been having quite a few missteps in marketing. The whole OGL debacle, for instance, pitted the community against WotC. At the time, leaked documents proved that the publisher wanted to change the OGL, a license that allowed third-party producers to create content for the game. The backlash was so intense that Wizards had to back out quickly on all changes and put the game’s license on Creative Commons. However, not everything in the launch is disappointing, and fans are in for some cool surprises.

One D&D will begin with the reappearance of Vecna in 2024 to commemorate the 50 years of the game’s history. As spotted by Polygon during the latest D&D Direct, the famous lich will play a major role in the transition to the new edition. The new Planescape book, which is set in the multiplanar city of Sigil, will set the return of Vecna right before the edition change. However, the details about how that will happen are still unclear at the moment.
