Crackshell has been showing off snippets of their upcoming Hammerwatch II for a few years now, but today it has been fully revealed. Modus Entertainment has announced that Hammerwatch II will be coming to PC, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch this summer.
2013’s Hammerwatch and its spinoff, 2018’s Heroes of Hammerwatch, are something of fixtures in the indie hack-and-slash space. They’re notable for their strong co-op elements. Hammerwatch II is boasting much of the same action, but including a day/night cycle and an “entirely new” mapmaker. The press release for this also touts “smarter enemy AI,” which sounds kind of weird for a Gauntlet-like.
The trailer dropped alongside the announcement shows off the good stuff: ghost wolves! Also, dragons and dungeons.
The release also says that a special edition of Hammerwatch II will be available at retail stores and digitally at launch. Titled Hammerwatch II: The Chronicles Edition, this will run you $40 American dollars and include “the original remastered Hammerwatch,” as well as character color palettes, “facial items,” and a voice pack. I have no idea if this is a new remaster of Hammerwatch and what that entails, or if it’s just a re-release.
I never played Hammerwatch, but Steam thinks I really should since it features heavily on the store for me. It looks cool, but having one friend is exhausting for me. I can’t imagine what it would be like to have three friends.
Hammerwatch II will be dropping on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch sometime this summer.
