DC and Warner Bros.' Shazam: Fury of the Gods will be arriving on HBO Max, which will soon be renamed to Max, on May 23, just two months after its theatrical opening, Variety reports. The DC Comics sequel debuted at the top slot of the weekend box office but soon crashed and barely made $30 million. It was quickly dethroned and caused some controversy when actor Zachary Levi went public with his own thoughts on why the movie failed.
The film has Billy Batson (Levi and Asher Angel) and his foster siblings using their divine powers to take on the Daughters of Atlas, led by Helen Mirren, who plays Hespera. Rachel Zegler, Adam Brody, Lucy Liu, and Djimon Hounsou round out the cast with Gal Gadot making a brief appearance as Wonder Woman in her fourth movie.
The film was initially delayed for over a year after a major reshuffling occurred with the pandemic as well as some movies being dropped altogether. The sequel was planned back in 2019 after the great success of the first feature film with Levi and director David F. Sandberg returning.
If you're wanting to see Shazam: Fury of the Gods now, it's already available to rent or buy on-demand on Prime Video for about $20.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods hits HBO Max starting May 23.
