Nintendo Switch sales in the UK rose in April, driven by the launch of theZelda: Tears of the Kingdom special edition Switch OLED in the last week of the month.
Switch sales were up 26% compared to those in March, and up 30% compared to those in April 2022, according to GfK figures published on GamesIndustry.biz.
Despite this boost in Switch sales, PS5 was still the best-selling console in the UK in April.
That’s not to say it was a particularly strong month for any system, however – despite coming out on top, PS5 sales in April were still down 35% compared to March (though they were up 15% compared to April 2022).
Similarly, Xbox Series X/S sales in April were down 32% compared to March, but up 8% compared to April 2022.
Overall, just under 111,000 consoles were sold in the UK in April, which was down 20% on March but up 20% on April 2022.
As for software, GSD data suggests that 2.2 million PC and console titles were sold in the UK in April (counting all physical sales, and most digital sales with some exceptions such as Nintendo).
The best-selling game in the UK in April was Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, which enjoyed UK launch sales over 30% greater than its predecessor, Fallen Order.
The second best-selling game in the UK last month was Dead Island 2, but overall the 2.2 million games sold last month was 8% lower than in April 2022 (partly thanks to the success of Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga last year).
