Actor Chiwetel Ejiofor, who earned an Oscar nomination for 12 Years a Slave and more recently appeared in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, is joining the cast of Venom 3.
Deadline reports that Ejiofor's role is a secret, but that the actor has closed a deal to appear. He will join Tom Hardy, who comes back to play Eddie Brock/Venom. Juno Temple, who stars on Apple's Ted Lasso, will appear in Venom 3 as well.
The first two Venom movies did not get great reviews from critics but did big business at the box office, together grossing more than $1.3 billion globally.
Ejiofor has a history with superhero movies, of course, as he played Baron Mordo in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Venom is not part of the MCU despite being a Marvel character.
Venom 3 is directed by Kelly Marcel, who wrote the first two Venom films. Venom 3, like the first two movies, is a co-production between Sony and Marvel. Plot details for Venom 3 are unknown, and there is no word yet on a release date.
2018's Venom earned $856 million worldwide. A sequel followed in 2021 during the pandemic, Venom: Let there Be Carnage, and it earned more than $500 million globally.
