During the Developer Livestream on October 4th, the team shared many significant changes coming to Diablo 4 with the release of Season 2 — Season of Blood. Some of these changes include Gems dropping as materials, Sort & Filter options for the Stash, and other huge quality-of-life improvements! Players have been vocal about their dislike of late-game itemization and having their inventories cluttered with low-quality gear. But Blizzard is taking a unique approach in order to address these issues moving forward.

The new process will make it so that the low-quality items that players would previously leave on the ground will no longer disappear into the abyss. Instead, these items will now automatically be converted into crafting materials:
Combined with the above-mentioned Gem changes, this is excellent news for those of us pack rats who try to squeeze out every little bit of crafting material we can, as we slash our way through Sanctuary. By automatically converting low item power normal, magic, and rare items into crafting materials, players will be able to find that next upgrade more easily, while stashing away important crafting materials that can later be used to improve the gear that they actually want.
