Thanos’ crime against Asgard and the rest of the universe in Avengers: Infinity War, as well as its consequences, just got worse thanks to Thor: Love and Thunder. More than three years after Avengers: Endgame, the MCU is still not done showing how exactly each of its main heroes is moving on after saving the universe at the cost of dear friends like Iron Man and Black Widow. Seen for the last time boarding the Guardians of the Galaxy ship at the end of Endgame, Thor is now heading for his fourth solo adventure, one that will see the return of familiar faces and, according to the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer, open some old wounds.
Thor will be the first MCU character to have four solo films, which makes sense given how Chris Hemsworth’s character has evolved after Thor: Ragnarok. The Taika Waititi film placed Thor out of his comfort zone and redefined the character as a more nuanced, emotionally complex, and overall funny hero. The success of Ragnarok prompted Waititi to return for a sequel, and it seems like much of what made the film so good will be carried onto Thor: Love and Thunder.

The fact that Thor remembers exactly how many years, months, and days have passed since he saw Jane Foster for the last time, as shown in the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer, is a perfect example of how emotionally sensible the character has been revealed to be sinceRagnarok. However, that line also reveals how tragic the events of Infinity War and Endgame must have been for the God of Thunder.
