Jeff Goldblum recently explained the Grandmaster's role in the upcoming MCU sequel, Thor: Love and Thunder. The highly-anticipated film finds the titular character picking up the pieces of his life shortly after the events of Avengers: Endgame. With Thanos defeated and Asgard destroyed, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) travels with the Guardians of the Galaxy to find a new purpose in his life. With Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale) threatening gods within the universe, Thor must team up with King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), his friend Korg (Taika Waititi), and his former love interest Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) as the Mighty Thor to defeat the new villain.
In attempt to stop his older sister Hela from entering Asgard in Thor: Ragnarok, Thor and Loki (Tom Hiddleston) were thrown from Bifrost and land on a hostile garbage planet known as Sakaar. There he encounters its ruler, an eccentric colorful man known as the Grandmaster (Goldblum). In their attempt to escape the planet, Thor and Loki inadvertently cause an uprising against its ruler. The film's post-credits scene shows the Grandmaster confronted by his former subjects, implying that he will soon be killed. However, it seems with Goldblum's admission that the playful tyrant may have survived the insurrection.
