Thor: Love and Thunder has an opportunity to revisit Avengers: Age of Ultron’s divisive Thor story. A scene in Avengers: Age of Ultron saw the God of Thunder visit a Norn pool to figure out his next course of action. The way this subplot was handled was widely criticized when the movie was released in 2015.
In the second Avengers movie, Thor responded to the hallucinations caused by Scarlet Witch’s powers by seeking out Thor’s Eric Selvig and then bringing him to a mysterious pool where he experienced a number of strange visions about the MCU’s future. Ultimately, this story proved to be a problematic addition to Age of Ultron’s story, with many claiming that the movie failed to properly explain what was happening and that it didn’t do enough to set up Thor’s big decision. What went wrong can be attributed to the fact that Age of Ultron director Joss Whedon originally included a much longer scene but ended up removing most of it from the theatrical cut.
