Riot Games recently revealed plans to reboot the bot system in League of Legends. The changes will be coming in the next major update. In a long blog post, Riot explained how the development team will be investing a substantial amount of time and effort into improving the ability of bots to play League of Legends, making them a lot more like actual players, specifically in the co-op mode.
According to the company, the goal of this upcoming overhaul is to make the bots more competent in performing basic game actions like jungling and ganking. Riot also plans to create an overall system for teams of bots in order to make them work together more cohesively. The final objective is to make bots able to adapt to shifting conditions and learn from past experiences.

The update is expected to provide players with a better way to learn and improve in League of Legends without the stress and occasionally high stakes of PvP matches. Expanding the pool of characters that bots are able to play, making bots work together as a team, and scaling the difficulty of bots to match the skills of their opponents are significant steps towards making the co-op mode resemble a real match.
In the blog post, Riot describes how the existing data showed that co-op matches do not for the most part improve the chances of new players when it comes to winning PvP matches. Riot hopes to give new players a better learning experience and a better chance of succeeding in real matches by improving the abilities of these bots.
