Electronic Arts has announced the first Apex Legends Season 17 details ahead of its launch next month.
Titled Arsenal and due to release on May 9, the latest season of content will introduce new hero Ballistic, who stars in the trailer below.
Originally a competitor in the Thunderdome Games, the disgraced Legend is coming out of retirement in a bid to stop his son from participating in the Apex Games.
Season 17 will also feature an updated version of the game’s World’s Edge map, plus a “majorly expanded” Firing Range.
Apex Legends Season 16, Revelry, launched in February. For the first time since the game’s release four years ago, a new season wasn’t accompanied by a fresh Legend. Instead, developer Respawn introduced “remastered” Legend classes.
Revelry also added the long-requested Team Deathmatch as a new limited time mode and sunsetted Arenas.
Respawn recently opened a third development studio to work on Apex Legends. Based in Madison, Wisconsin, it’s being led by Ryan Burnett, who was formerly director of engine production at Epic Games and also spent 14 years at Call of Duty developer Raven Software.
In January, Respawn owner EA announced plans to close Apex Legends Mobile. It also reportedly cancelled an unannounced Titanfall game that was being planned as a single-player experience for Apex Legends.
