Capcom has released a demo for Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, available now across Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. The full game is out on 19th July with pre-orders now available… and it’s also out on Xbox Game Pass on day one.
Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess is an intriguing genre mash up and blend of ideas. Inspired by Japanese mythology and religion, the game casts you as Soh, a warrior who must guide and protect the divine maiden Yoshiro across Mt. Kafuku in a quest to clear the defilement of the malevolent The Seethe.
Reaching a village in the morning, you’ll have to race around and rescue villagers, clear defilement, and make progress along the main path toward corrupted Torii gates. As the sun sets and nighttime plunges the village into darkness, The Seethe emerge from the gates and you have to now defend Yoshiro from attack, enlisting rescued villagers into different roles to support Soh’s own dancing swords combat.
It’s not clear just how big the demo is, but getting to have a go at this unusual blend of gameplay should hopefully bring more people in to picking up the game at launch.
I went hands on with the game’s opening hours recently and was able to share my preview yesterday. I said, “There’s plenty of depths to the tactics and strategy in Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess that I wasn’t able to explore during my hands on time, but I already love the game’s blend of gameplay, visual stylings and overarching tone. It’s a game that at many points can look serene and in complete control as Yoshiro performatively progresses through a stage, but feels like a madcap dash and struggle to get everything done and prepared just in time to keep her safe in the fight against the Seethe.”
