Yesterday, Xbox CFO Tim Stuart said Microsoft wants Xbox Game Pass on «every screen that can play games», including «what we would have thought of as competitors in the past like PlayStation and Nintendo». One day later, Xbox boss Phil Spencer told Windows Central: «We have no plans to bring Game Pass to PlayStation or Nintendo. It's not in our plans.»
The conflicting comments from Xbox leads create confusion for PS5, PS4 players who had hope of playing the likes of Starfield on a Sony console via an Xbox Game Pass subscription following Stuart's statement, which was said to be «a bit of a change in strategy». Given that Spencer leads the Xbox platform, it's assumed this is the definitive statement on the situation. Phil Spencer has been on record in the past saying «other competitive platforms really aren't interested in having a full Xbox experience on their hardware», so this latest statement lines up with his stance.
It appears PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium remain the best bet for anyone interested in gaining access to a large catalogue of games via a membership on PS5, PS4, though Sony's titles don't release day and date onto the service.
