Writer/director James Gunn debunks Peacemaker star Jennifer Holland joining Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 after a misinterpreted post. Holland and Gunn first teamed up for the 2019 superhero horror film Brightburn, which was written by the filmmaker's brother Brian and cousin Mark and on which Gunn produced, but would properly collaborate on Gunn's DC Extended Universe debut The Suicide Squad. Gunn finally kicked off filming on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in November 2021 with the entire original cast and a few newcomers, though not one some may have expected.
