Actor Viola Davis is reportedly set to star in a Peacemaker spin-off centered on her Amanda Waller character. Variety was the first to report.
Plot details are still unknown, though this is likely the other «TV show that's connected to [the Peacemaker] universe» screenwriter and director James Gunn told Deadline about back in January. Waller--who runs Suicide Squad--only appears uncredited and only briefly in the Peacemaker series in a quick cameo in the first and last episode of Season 1.
According to Variety, Davis will executive produce as well as star. Christal Henry (Watchman) is also slated to write and executive produce. However, none of this is quite written in stone yet as unknown sources are cited here--and representatives for Davis, Henry, HBO Max, and WBTV have not issued a comment.
Peacemaker was for the most part received warmly by critics. The show picks up after the events of the 2021 film The Suicide Squad, as Peacemaker is recovering from injuries sustained during that movie--and forced to join a mysterious black ops squad called «Project Butterfly.»
In February, HBO Max renewed Peacemaker for Season 2. Gunn has signed on to write and direct all episodes of this upcoming season, though it's unknown how many episodes the follow-up season will consist of. Season 1 ran for eight episodes.
