Apple iPhone 13, the latest lineup launched by Apple is still not off the discussion table yet and most eyes are scanning the horizon about news of iPhone 14 launch in 2022, but amazingly, Internet rumor mills are already raging about iPhone 15 camera! A recent report by Macrumors quoting analyst Jeff Pu as suggesting that the iPhone 15 camera is expected to feature a periscope system which may make its debut in 2023, an year after iPhone 14 launch.
The iPhone 15 variant concerned is the iPhone 15 Pro. One of the three cameras on it will use a periscope lens and this will allow an awesome 10 times optical zoom - much more than the 3 times optical zoom offered by the latest iPhone 13 Pro models and possibly significantly more than what the rumored iPhone 14 Pro series will bring to its cameras later this year, analyst Jeff Pu leaks suggested.
In the Periscope Lens, the light entering the iPhone's telephoto lens on the back would be reflected by an angled mirror placed towards the camera's image sensor with a periscope system. This change in the direction of the light will allow Apple to accommodate a longer telephoto lens inside the iPhone, letting users zoom in closer without any blur, the report further suggested. Though, the periscope lens mechanism is not new. We already have seen periscope lenses in Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and Huawei P40 Pro+, which feature 10 times optical zoom.
