Twitter Spaces was first launched in November 2020 in an attempt to build its own voice chat rooms following Clubhouse’s success. But in order to test the waters, the feature was limited to users with 600 or more followers. But now, Twitter has made Spaces available to all users using the platform via iPhone (iOS) and Android devices.
Twitter announced today through its official Spaces Twitter account that this feature has been opened to all users. The recordings will be available for public playback for 30 days. “Recording has launched to everyone on iOS and Android! hope you’ve gotten used to the sound of your own voice,” the tweet said.
Explaining in a separate tweet, Twitter’s Support account said that a user can set up their own audio chat room through the android and iPhone (iOS) apps. On the app, you will now be able to see the Twitter Spaces icon with four circles aligned in a diamond shape. Once you tap on it, the screen will show all the live Spaces happening live. There, you can find another icon with multiple circles which should allow you to set up your own Twitter Spaces.
To set up your own Twitter Spaces, you have to type a name, select a topic and hit the ‘Start your Space’ button. If you wish to start it at a later time, you can also schedule it using a calendar icon provided. The same screen also gives you the option to record the session for playback at a later time. The recordings will be available for 30 days after a session is concluded. The host can choose to delete it at any time before the 30 days period as well.
