Among the many different currency types in , Gold Rations are arguably the most valuable to get as often as you can. These items unlock permanent upgrades for your character that last throughout multiple Cycles, allowing you to grow stronger for future runs. However, it takes some degree of failure to earn Gold Rations in large amounts.
Gold Rations should not be confused with Cores, which are also used to purchase character upgrades. Cores unlock different Tier paths in the Pherus Bit progression system, but not the individual buffs located within those sections. With Cores, Medigems, Abyss Stones, Bright Blood Material, and Holobytes in , it's easy to confuse Gold Rations with another currency's purpose.

The most common way you'll spend Gold Rations is on upgrades from the Pherus Bit pathways you unlock using Cores and Abyss Stones. These bonuses are applied to whichever character you're playing, giving them a variety of different buffs. For example, one Pherus Bit upgrade will allow you to carry more Medkits in , allowing you to survive in the Overgrowth longer.
